Turbhe is one of Navi Mumbai's working nodes: the MIDC industrial estate, a substantial warehousing and logistics presence, transport operators, packaging and engineering suppliers, and the trade that grows around a large goods movement.

The print demand is functional and volume-driven: labels, cartons, shipper marks, dispatch documentation, racking and bay signage, and the technical and dealer material that manufacturers here need.

It is also close - about ten minutes from our press - which makes the physical checks that matter on industrial print, like adhesion on the real substrate or a folded carton sample, a normal part of the job rather than an extra.

Industrial labels fail in specific and predictable ways, and every one is a specification decision made without thinking.

A thermal label that stops scanning after a fortnight was direct-thermal where it should have been thermal-transfer; direct-thermal fades with heat and light and a warehouse roof supplies both. A label that peels in transit had a general-purpose adhesive on a dusty recycled corrugated surface. A barcode that scanners struggle with was printed too small, at too little contrast, or without enough quiet zone.

For product and brand labels the same rules apply plus durability: synthetic faces where there is handling or moisture, matched adhesives for the container surface, and a coding window kept clear of varnish where batch details are overprinted on the line.

If the labels are applied by machine, tell us the machine. Roll diameter, core size and winding direction are invisible on a proof and decisive at the applicator.

A plain carton with a hand-stencilled mark is cheap and it costs money elsewhere - misrouted consignments, slow picking, damage nobody can attribute, and a brand that disappears the moment it leaves the gate.

A printed top-sheet on a corrugated outer, or flexo shipper marks, is inexpensive at volume and makes a warehouse readable. Where the outer is also the customer-facing pack, which is increasingly common, it carries the brand as well.

The specification questions are board grade and flute for the stack, print method for the surface, and how much of the pack is genuinely worth printing. Over-specifying a shipper wastes as surely as under-specifying it.

Anything structural gets a physical dummy before the run - made on the real board, folded and filled in the hand.

Racking and bay labels, aisle and zone boards, dock and dispatch signage, safety and fire signage, and floor marking. Unglamorous, and the difference between a facility that runs and one that argues with itself.

The decisions are legibility and durability. Aisle and bay signage has to read from a distance and from an angle, which decides size and contrast. Floor markings live under forklift traffic. Safety and fire signage follows the standard your EHS team specifies rather than anything we invent.

We measure on site, produce here and install. For a large facility we would rather walk it once than work from a drawing, because the sight-lines that decide sign placement are not visible on a plan.

Being ten minutes away makes that walk cheap.

Manufacturers here ship documentation with their product: manuals, datasheets, installation guides, test certificates, spare-part lists and warranty cards.

These are treated as controlled documents rather than design jobs. Copy set from the approved source rather than retyped. Tables built rather than pasted as images. Version and revision numbers printed on the piece. Reprints handled as revisions against the retained master.

The practical requirements follow the use: a manual used next to a machine wants a stock that survives oil and hands and a binding that lies flat; a datasheet handed to a customer's QC department wants accuracy above everything.

Certificates and warranty cards need controlled numbering, which is variable-data digital work.

For labels: thermal-transfer on synthetic faces where the label must last; direct-thermal only for genuinely short-life use; synthetic PP and polyester with adhesives matched to the container surface for product labels.

For cartons: board grade and flute chosen for the stack and transit rather than for the shelf; printed top-sheets where the outer carries the brand.

For manuals and documentation: a stock that takes handling, with a binding chosen for how the document is used.

For signage: ACP for durability, retro-reflective where it must read at night, and floor materials rated for forklift traffic.

Offset for labels and cartons at volume, where the per-piece cost collapses and colour control is best.

Digital where there are many SKUs in modest quantities - a common shape for a manufacturer with a wide range - and for anything numbered or personalised.

Large format for signage, boards and site branding.

Where a run is genuinely marginal, the quote shows your quantity and the next slab so the decision is visible rather than argued.

For labels: material and adhesive first, then print method, then volume. A thermal-transfer label on a synthetic face costs several times a direct-thermal paper one and is the right answer whenever the label has to last.

For cartons: board grade and flute dominate, then print coverage, then die-cutting, with tooling amortising across reorders.

For signage: material and installation, with installation the larger half at height or across a large facility.

And the largest cost of all is a failure: a label that will not scan slows a pick line, a carton that collapses damages goods. A pilot batch on the exact specification is cheap insurance on a large run.

The most useful first message describes the physical situation: what the label or carton goes on, what temperature and handling it lives with, what reads it, how many, and by when.

Send a sample of the current item if there is one. It answers more questions than a specification sheet does.
