Printing Company in Vashi

Vashi is where Navi Mumbai does business. The APMC markets on one side, corporate offices and banks around the station and Palm Beach, a very large retail and mall presence, hospitals and diagnostic centres, coaching institutes and schools, and the professional services base that grows around all of it.

The print that follows is unusually varied for one node. In a single week we might produce trade documentation for an APMC wholesaler, a corporate profile for an office on Palm Beach, promotional standees for a store in a mall, patient forms for a diagnostic centre and admission material for a coaching class.

What ties it together is proximity. Vashi is fifteen minutes from our press at Koparkhairane, which changes what is practical: proofs can be delivered, colour can be approved standing at the press, and a delivery can be split without becoming a logistics exercise.

The APMC markets are one of the largest concentrated trading operations in the region, and the print they run on is functional: bill books, delivery challans, order books, rate cards, lot and bag marking, and the labels and stickers that identify goods through the chain.

The requirements are practical rather than decorative. Carbonless sets in the right grades and the right order so every copy is legible. Controlled sequential numbering, because a repeated number in a bill book is an accounting problem rather than a printing one. Stock that takes a ballpoint in a hurry without feathering. Binding that survives being carried around a market all day.

Numbering and personalisation are variable-data work and run digitally, which also makes frequent, modest reorders practical.

The saving worth taking here is consolidation. One order covering a year of stationery costs considerably less per piece than four quarterly ones, and at these quantities that difference is real money.

For an office-based business, printed material is often the first physical thing a client or a prospect handles, and it is judged instantly. A card on thin stock, a folder that will not close with an A4 sheet inside, a profile printed on paper that curls - each communicates something nobody intended.

The fixes are inexpensive and permanent: a heavier stock with a matt lamination on a card, a folder with a proper capacity spine, a profile on a stock that lies flat.

The larger opportunity is consistency. Most offices have accumulated two or three versions of their own logo and several shades of their colour, because each item was ordered separately over the years. Bringing them onto one artwork set is a day of design and it stops the problem permanently.

Design and identity work carries no minimum, whether or not any printing follows.

Vashi's retail density means promotional print is continuous rather than seasonal: offer standees, danglers, shelf strips, window graphics, posters, gift vouchers and loyalty material.

The constraints are the store's, not the brand's. A standee needs a footprint a store can spare; a dangler needs to suit the ceiling height; a window graphic needs to be applied to glass that has to stay clean. Material that curls in humidity or fades under shop lighting goes out of service long before the campaign ends.

For chains with several outlets, producing centrally and kitting per store is the difference between outlets that match and outlets that each look slightly different. It is also cheaper, because it is one set-up rather than eight.

Window and floor graphics have their own material requirements and a removability question that is worth settling before rather than after.

Vashi has a substantial healthcare cluster, and healthcare print is a controlled-document problem: consent forms, patient information, prescription stationery, report covers, appointment cards and department signage.

These are revised more often than anyone plans for, so they are treated as versioned documents - a retained master, a revision mark printed on the piece, and reprints handled as edits against the current approved copy rather than repeats of the last run.

Physical requirements matter as much as content. Forms need a stock that takes ballpoint and stamp ink without feathering. Multi-part sets need the right carbonless grades in the right order. Report covers are kept by patients for years and should survive that.

Signage in a hospital is a wayfinding job before it is a design job: consistent naming, legible from the distance people actually read from, and durable enough for corridors that are cleaned daily.

For trade stationery, a stock that takes a pen cleanly and enough weight to survive being carried. For carbonless sets, the correct grades - a set where the third copy is unreadable is a set that will cause an argument.

For corporate documents, uncoated with weight where the piece is written on or wants to read as considered; coated art paper with a matt laminated cover where photographs carry it.

For retail promotion, sun-board and foam board for interior standees, vinyl for window graphics, and materials chosen for how long the campaign actually runs rather than for how long it was planned to.

For anything outdoors - shopfronts, boards - ACP with a printed vinyl face rather than flex, which fades and tears within a season in this climate.

Vashi's variety means both presses are in constant use, and the split is decided by quantity and by whether anything needs to be unique.

Digital: stationery, forms, short-run brochures, anything numbered or personalised, and anything with several versions. It has almost no set-up cost, which is what makes small and frequent orders sensible.

Offset: anything into the thousands, and anything where a brand colour has to be held exactly across items. That is where the per-piece cost collapses and where the colour control is.

Large format: standees, boards, window graphics, shopfronts and signage. Our quotes show your quantity and the next slab up, because the break is frequently closer than buyers expect.

Run length first. At the modest quantities much of this work involves, set-up is a large share of the invoice, which is exactly why most of it runs digitally.

Then material and finishing. On stationery and folders, finishing - lamination, die-cutting, a capacity spine - is often more than half the difference between two quotes.

Then versions and numbering, which are nearly free on digital and expensive on offset.

And then frequency: the single largest avoidable cost in this market is ordering the same item four times a year in small quantities. Where the artwork is stable and the material keeps, one larger order is materially cheaper, and we will say so rather than quietly taking four.

It removes the parts of a print relationship that are usually awkward. A proof can be dropped off rather than emailed and interpreted. A press sheet can be looked at and signed. A delivery can be split so you are not storing a year of stationery. A signage measurement takes half a morning rather than a scheduled visit.

It also means a problem can be looked at. If something arrives wrong, someone can see it the same day rather than describing it over a phone.
